Thrive Approach

A different way to support emotional regulation

We know how crucial early years education is. In the first few years of life, a child's brain goes through rapid period of development. This means our early experiences are critical in shaping the course of our social and emotional development; the capacity to love, empathise, form relationships and importantly how to respond to stress and anxiety. We know that by providing caring and nurturing environment, we can help the children to develop their brains and help regulate their emotions. Have you heard of the fight or flight response - this is a physiological state that happens to us when we think we are presented with danger.

The Thrive Approach offers us a different way of looking at, and thinking about how and why we see unwanted behaviour and importantly how to get the very best out of children. This enables them to be happy, strong, resilient individuals ready to take on the world.

At Caterpillars we offer a caring, consistent routine with genuine age appropriate expectations based on the Thrive model. We focus on meeting children's physical and emotional needs. When we deal with unwanted behaviour, we think about the whole body approach, and use nurturing empathetic responses to soothe children. We work individually with children, and their families to recognise their windows of tolerance and support them to understand and communicate thoughts, feelings and responses.
